These Redwood boards were reclaimed from a Brewery in Louisiana. The Brewery was built in 1903 so you know these are Old Growth boards.
The boards came from 10 foot tall Vats which were held in place by two, 2 ¼” Straps at the top and bottom of each Vat. This means that their life started out as Staves.
As you might know, a stave is a length of wood with slightly beveled edges, thus when pressed together, form a round Vat or Barrel.
All boards were purchased from a Lumber Yard who specializes in Reclaiming Factory/Warehouse lumber. They Squared up the beveled edges and removed the protective coating. That was the first time since 1903 that the boards were able to see sunlight.
The first lot of 150 boards were purchased in April of 1995 followed by another 150 boards in June of the same year. Because of the quality of the boards, it was just too good to pass up.
Because each board had 2 dado cuts for the straps, I had each of the boards Re-Sawed to remove the Dado on each side. That action changed the boards face to Smooth 3 Sides (s3s) because the re-sawing left the 4th side “rough”.
Re-Sawing the boards left me with two pieces of scrap and a 105” x ½” board. (See Drawing below)
Our shop used the wood to produce several large sandblasted signs. With the Clear, Heartwood, tight Vertical Grains of these boards, the results were stunning.
Several years ago, we purchased a CNC Router and switched our focus to producing dimensional signs using HDU, thus, retiring our Sandblasting equipment and Redwood.
So, what’s left of the Redwood has been sitting in our Climate Controlled shop ever since we purchased it in 1995. With it first being used in 1903, that makes these boards 117 years old! Think they are dry???
Old Growth, Vertical Grained, Heartwood boards remaining. As stated before, they have been in a climate controlled environment for the past 25 years. Each board is stacked with spacers so air can circulate around each board, so you know they are “dry”.
Because Two Lots were purchased at different times, some of the board are different in thickness. Some of the boards are 1 5/8” and other boards at 1 ¾” thick. Here is what is available:
STACK #1 The big boards, 84 pieces
Thickness varies between 1 5/8” to 1 3/4”.

STACK #2 The Remnants from the Re-Saw, 86 pieces
Thickness measurement is approximate
9/16” x 7-1/8” x 8’ 9” long (105”) - (S3S)
If you need/want Redwood, you will NOT be disappointed.
